Mauritius
Caroline Rault

I use printmaking and painting to bring together memories, ideas and concerns.

I've been influenced by a fluid history of drifting between England and Mauritius all my life.  I'm a Londoner now but I'm formed by the Indian Ocean and the sea around Cornwall where I lived for a while. I've travelled about to Mexico, Senegal, Tanzania and Italy.

Some of my work explores the cultural mix up that is Mauritius.  The quotidian: breakfast, fishing and drying octopus but also the devotional: gods, shrines and altars.

Recently I've been making art about my fears for the environment, particularly the disasters of climate change and what is happening to the oceans and coral reefs.
